What You Should Know About ABA.

One of the greatest values in the application of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) can be found in how reinforcements are set in place to promote and reward positive behaviors so that they become more frequent and, to discourage undesirable behaviors.
Human development naturally occurs in this very same way and typically through the normal course of a child’s interactions with others and their environment.  Since children with ASD do not interact with their environment and others in the same way that children not on the spectrum do, they require additional focus and efforts by trained individuals, to properly learn what is acceptable and what is not.
ABA programs in early intervention programs are powerful tools that can be used to help set children on a course to increase their awareness and to teach them valuable skills that promote independence in their day-to-day lives.
ABA therapy specifically compartmentalizes a child’s behavior patterns into goals and calculable efforts so that each effort can be independently observed and that child’s behavior can be analyzed to determine which skills the child might need to develop in order to succeed at a given task.

ABA Therapy Rewards

Applied Behavioral Analysis utilizes a valuable reward system to encourage ideal efforts and behavior. Rewards become ‘reinforcers’ that motivate the child to seek out the positive behavior again, to be rewarded again.  Rewards can be almost anything that offers the student an immediate positive feeling with which they can associate the behavior they just presented. Toys, Snacks or even positive verbal encouragement can be seen as reinforcing rewards.
ABA is not a cure for ASD but rather a fantastic tool with which those challenged with the disorder, can more successfully develop skills to live a more rewarding life, that includes both appropriate behavior and positive social interactions.
It is possible, with the introduction of professional Early Intervention, to have a dramatically positive effect on the development of a child’s verbal and social skills.  Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy is widely regarded as the most effective, scientific-based, therapeutic approach, to furthering the support of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
